Rockcote PortseaRockcote Portsea is a ready mixed, pre-coloured acrylic coating ideal for covering and decorating suitably prepared interior or exterior surfaces such as:
Rockcote Portsea effectively imparts a seam-free solid rendered effect and natural ambiance to drab concrete walls with the performance properties of modern flexible 100% acrylic polymer protection. PERFORMANCE & PROPERTIESAdhesionRockcote Portsea exhibits excellent adhesion to all common building materials if correct surface preparation is carried out in accordance with specifications. DurabilityRockcote Portsea is knock resistant, scuff resistant and can resist extremes of weather and attack from fungi and mould when over coated with Rockcote Armour or Clearcote. Portsea can also be left uncoated for a more natural finish but durability will be short ended. Rockcote Portsea provides a flexible finish that is resistant to micro-cracking caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate. Portsea also remains vapour permeable, allowing the walls to "breathe". Colours AvailableRockcote Portsea can be tinted to a wide range of colours from soft natural tones to vibrant colours. Portsea is particularly suitable for soft natural colours where the patinae nature of the Portsea finish creates a similar effect to natural stone or clay surfaces. Light-fastness of chosen exterior colours must be confirmed before ordering. Surface PreparationAll surfaces should be clean and free from loose material such as drummy sections and flaking paint. Powdery surfaces should not be coated with Rockcote Portsea. Glossy surfaces should be lightly sanded and washed clean. Dirty surfaces should be washed down with warm water mixed with detergent and flushed with clean water. Mould should be removed by cleaning and surfaces treated with a proprietary surface sanitiser with residual action. Only dry surfaces should be painted. Fill cracks and other surface imperfections with suitable Rockcote patching compounds. Substrates must contain less than 15% Wood-Moisture-Equivalent (%WME) before painting. Rockcote pre-bagged Cement based renders can be coated 48 hours after dry. Other new cement based surfaces should not be coated until 30 days old. APPLICATIONConcrete Block & Brick Walls(Where mortar joints and other imperfections need to be concealed) Rockcote Skimcote V6, PM100 or Quick Render should be applied according to specifications and left as a float finish. A coat of Rockcote Texprime is then applied followed by one coat of Rockcote Portsea. The Primer should be tinted to the same colour as the Portsea. Portsea is applied by trowel and then finished with a plastic float to a thickness of 1 to 1.5 mm. A wet edge should be maintained throughout the application and day joints formed at corners, expansion joints or mouldings where they will not be evident in the finish. Finished work must be protected from severe weather conditions for 48 hours after application and protected from damage until the completion of the project. Smooth Surfaces(Previously rendered masonry, concrete or cement sheeting) LimitationsApplication should not be carried out in temperatures below 5 ° C or above 35 ° C or in strong winds. Rockcote Portsea is manufactured from natural mineral Marble chips and some variation in colour may occur from batch to batch so material should be ordered in job lots. Material from later batches should be restricted to separate areas where colour differences will not be noticed. If a more even colour is desired or for an increased level of gloss or improved resistance to dirt pick up, Portsea can be over coated with Rockcote Armour or Rockcote Clearcote. Portsea is not suitable for areas subject to total immersion in water or for use on roof tops. The application of Rockcote Portsea is a specialist procedure and should only be carried out by a skilled and experienced applicator and in accordance with our technical specifications.
