Rockcote Armour Flex
Rockcote Armour Flex is a heavy duty acrylic membrane coating suitable for use over: -
- Texture Coatings
- Brickwork
- Concrete
- Cement Render
- Hebel A.A.C .
- Fibro Cement Sheet
- Most common masonry building substrates, when properly prepared
Rockcote Armour Flex is an acrylic heavy duty durable coating, providing long term external protection for all masonry surfaces. Armour Flex can also be applied as a final finish over Rockcote Texture Coatings for added durability, weather protection, and resistance to dirt pick-up, providing an attractive low sheen finish. Rockcote Armour Flex is especially suited to the long term protection of masonry substrates where a durable and flexible coating capable of a stipple/ textured finish is required.
PERFORMANCE & PROPERTIES
Adhesion
Rockcote Armour Flex exhibits excellent adhesion to most common masonry building materials if correct surface preparation is carried out in accordance with specifications.
Durability
Armour Flex is impact resistant, scuff resistant, cleanable and can resist extremes of weather and attack from fungi and mould. Rockcote Armour Flex provides a water repellent finish that is resistant to micro-cracking caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate. Armour Flex also remains vapour permeable, allowing the walls to “breathe”.
Colours Available
Rockcote Armour Flex can be tinted to a wide range of colours from soft natural tones to vibrant colours. Light-fastness of chosen exterior colours must be confirmed before ordering.
Limitations
Rockcote Armour Flex is not recommended for floors, and is not suitable for areas that will be totally submerged in water or subjected to continual damp. Rockcote Armour Flex is not suitable for use over oily hardwoods that haven’t been primed with a stain blocking primer.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be clean and free from loose material such as drummy sections and flaking paint. Powdery surfaces should not be painted with Rockcote Armour Flex. Glossy surfaces should be lightly sanded and washed clean. Dirty surfaces should be washed down with warm water mixed with detergent and flushed with clean water Mould should removed by cleaning and surfaces treated with a proprietary surface sanitiser with residual action. Only dry surfaces should be painted. Fill cracks and other surface imperfections with suitable Rockcote patching compounds.
Substrates must contain less than 15% Wood-Moisture-Equivalent (%WME) before painting. Rockcote Cement based renders can be coated 48 hours after drying. Other new cementitious surfaces should not be coated until 30 days old.
APPLICATION
- Rockcote Armour Flex is applied to the properly prepared substrate using brush, roller or airless spray equipment. Two coats should be applied, allowing at least 6 hours drying time between coats. To obtain a stipple/ textured finish, the first coat of Armour Flex should be applied with a textured sleeve to suit the degree of texture/ stipple required. The second coat should be applied with a long nap woollen roller (ensuring the recommended film build is achieved). For colours tinted from Ultra Deep Base, (unless applied over a similar colour background) a three coat application may be required to achieve the desired opacity.
- Armour Flex may be applied to off-form concrete Class 2 (AS1510) or equivalent, cement rendered fair-faced flush jointed concrete block and brickwork(common, clay, concrete, Calsil, and extruded), Exotech, CFC, and fibre cement sheeting, tilt-up and pre-cast concrete, Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC), paper faced plasterboard, extruded and expanded polystyrene
- Application should not be carried out in temperatures below 5 ° C or above 35 ° C or in strong winds.
STORAGE, SAFETY & HANDLING
- Pails should not be stacked more than three high during transportation and should be stored out of direct sunlight and above 4 ° C
- When working with Rockcote Armour Flex, observe the usual precautions for handling water borne acrylic based products
- Avoid inhalation of vapour, prolonged skin contact and particularly eye contact
- If skin or eye contact occurs, flush thoroughly with clean water and see a doctor if irritation occurs
- If ingestion occurs, drink at least two glasses of water and consult a doctor
- Wear protective clothing to minimise skin contact, and wear goggles where spatter is likely
