EcoStyle Low Sheen – People Safe Paint

Rockcote EcoStyle Low Sheen is a premium quality, water-borne low sheen paint that is user friendly and environmentally friendly.

EcoStyle Low Sheen is suitable for interior and exterior^ application and is an emulsion based product providing maximum adhesion to all properly prepared building substrates and drying to a tough scrubbable low sheen finish.

This zero* V.O.C. (Volatile Organic Compound) paint is ideal for users who are health conscious and concerned about environmental air pollution and indoor air quality. Areas painted with EcoStyle Low Sheen have no lingering paint fumes.

EcoStyle low Sheen is made from high grade components, provides excellent opacity and will not support the growth of mould, mildew or fungi.

Typical Uses

EcoStyle Low Sheen is suitable for use on all properly prepared common building substrates such as, plasterboard, fibro cement sheet, white set plaster and cement render.

Surface Preparation

Brick, Block, Cement, Fibro

Ensure the surface is free from loose material. Use a wire brush or scraping tool to remove peeling, flaking or loose material.

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from release agents, oil and grease. Use a mixture of liquid detergent and warm water to clean. Flush all cleaned surfaces with clean water and allow to fully dry. Patch and fill holes and cracks with Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch.

Remove all mould, mildew or fungi and treat these areas with diluted bleach at (1:10) mixture and then clean with a proprietary antifungal and algal wash with residual activity. Ensure that any new cement or concrete is fully cured and that the substrate moisture content is 15% WME or lower before painting.

Apply one coat of EcoStyle Sealer/ Undercoat. Apply one or more coats of EcoStyle Low Sheen.

Previously Painted

Ensure the surface is free from loose material. Use a wire brush, scraping tool and/or sander to remove peeling, flaking or loose material.

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from release agents, oil and grease. Use a mixture of detergent and warm water to clean and flush all cleaned surfaces with clean water. Allow the surface to fully dry and check that the moisture content is 15% WME or lower before painting.

Sand any non porous surfaces such as glossy painted areas. Patch and fill holes and cracks with Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch. Remove all mould, mildew or fungi and treat these areas with diluted bleach at (1:10) mixture and then clean with a proprietary antifungal and algal wash with residual activity. Ensure that any new cement or concrete is fully cured before painting.

Apply one coat of EcoStyle Sealer/ Undercoat. Apply one or more coats of EcoStyle Low Sheen.

^ EcoStyle low Sheen may dry rapidly without the addition of an auxiliary wet-edge extender in hot weather or over unsealed high suction surfaces due to the omission of VOC solvents commonly used in water- bourne paints.

# For exterior use, the degree of colour fade must be confirmed before finalising order. Some colours are unsuitable for exterior use.

* Ecostyle Low Sheen contains no added raw materials classified as VOCs under APAS (Australian Paint Approval Scheme) guidelines; however there are small amounts of residual VOC in the paint due to residual VOC content in some of the raw materials used.

Plaster Board (Paper Covered)

Ensure the surface is free from loose material. Wipe down to ensure the surface is clean, dry and dust free. Patch and fill holes and cracks with Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch.

Apply one coat of EcoStyle Sealer Undercoat then two coats of EcoStyle Low Sheen. Pre-coat any absorbent plaster joints with EcoStyle Sealer/Undercoat. Do not sand the paper surface of plasterboard.

Timber and Hardboard

Ensure the surface is free from loose material.

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dirt oil and grease. Use a mixture of detergent and warm water to lightly clean but do not allow timber to become saturated or heavily wet. Allow the surface to fully dry and check that the moisture content is 15% WME or lower before painting.

Sand any non porous surfaces such as glossy or sealed timber. Patch and fill holes and cracks with Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch.

Apply two coats of EcoStyle Sealer Undercoat and lightly sand each coat back when dry before applying one or more coats of EcoStyle Low Sheen.

Application

Can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Keep the lid on the pail except when pouring paint into the roller tray or painting container. Cover rollers, paint trays and brushes with cling wrap to minimise evaporation for the duration of breaks from painting less than two hours long.

Carefully remove any dry or wet skin from the inside top area of the pail or surface of the paint before thoroughly stirring contents before use.

Only thin the paint required to complete a job session. Do not thin the entire contents unless the intention is to use all the contents at once. Do not return thinned out paint to the pail if paint is to be stored for more than three days. Wet the brush or roller with water and remove all excess water before painting.

Apply evenly with a clean, good quality brush. For best results use a synthetic bristle trim brush with a feathered tip. Once an even coat has been achieved, allow the wet paint to self-level out.

Suitable for spray application by conventional spray, HVLP or Airless Spray. For Airless Spray use 0.015 to 0.017 inch spray tips and adjust flow rate and fan width to minimise water required to thin.

Limitations

• Not for use over powdery unbound or loose surfaces.
• Not suitable for areas that may be submerged in water or subject to continual damp
• Not suitable for use over unsealed hardwood
• Do not store product that has been thinned with water for more than three days

Proper Disposal of excess & waste product

• If you can't use your leftover paint give it to someone who can. Consider giving your paint to friends and neighbours or local community groups such as Scouts or charity groups undertaking community work.
• Residual small amounts of leftover paint on brushes and rollers should be wiped onto old newspaper and allowed to dry rather than being washed down the sink.
• Residual paint in the pail should be allowed to dry before disposal. Dried paint films should be disposed of in normal rubbish bins.
• Dried EcoStyle paint has very poor adhesion to the plastic pails it is sold in. Therefore, dried paint in the pail can normally be peeled off and the pail can be used for another use such as storing fishing tackle or garden tools. The pails are also approved for recycling by most municipal councils in Australia.
• Eco Style Paint is suitable for disposal through the RA Industries Reclaimer Portable Paint Wash Recycling System.
