Rockcote Polymer Render High Build

Rockcote Polymer Render Hi Build is a high solids, thin section flexible render for difficult substrates.

Polymer Render Hi Build is suitable Exterior or Interior for correctly prepared: -

  • Masonry Surfaces, including clay brick and cement render
  • A.A.C. – Hebel Blocks and Panels
  • Ritek Panel Systems

Polymer Render Hi build is a pre-mixed single component rendering material supplied ready for use in plastic pails. This product is designed to be used as a thin section render or patching compound over difficult substrates such as off-form concrete, A.A.C. [Hebel® panels or blocks] and cement sheeting.

PERFORMANCE and PROPERTIES
Adhesion and Flexibility

Modern construction methods and materials often require certain tensile properties from an exterior plaster coating, which cannot be achieved with standard or even modified cement renders.

The most important properties required are, adhesion to smooth dense or highly porous substrates, and flexibility and compatibility with finishing coats that are predominantly acrylic based. Polymer Render Hi Build meets these requirements.

Economical

Rockcote Polymer Render Hi Build can provide an economical and attractive rendered finish with an applied wet thickness of between 1.2 - 6.0mm. Polymer Render Hi Build is a single component product which is completely free from both lime and cement. When used as directed Polymer Render Hi Build can provide a stable flat surface for top coating with either paints or textured finishes.See Rockcote Specification onLevels of Finish. Polymer Render Hi Build is high in total volume solids, providing a value for money solution to plastering difficult substrates.

Limitations
  • Polymer Render Hi Build is not suitable for areas that are submerged or subjected to continual damp or hydrostatic pressure from within the substrate
  • Polymer Render Hi Build should only be applied to a total maximum wet film thickness of 6mm. Note that film thicknesses greater than 3 mm can take more than 24hours to dry under some conditions. If the total film thickness required is 6mm then best results are achieved by applying 2 or more coats at 2mm average wet film thickness per coat.
  • Polymer Render Hi Build should not be applied if the substrate and/or ambient temperature is less than 5 ° C or higher than 35 ° C. Or in strong windy conditions.*
  • Polymer Render Hi Build should not be applied in strong windy conditions
  • Over previously painted substrates, Rockcote Reno Render is recommended in preference to or before the Polymer Render Hi Build to avoid excessive drying time.
  • Polymer Render Hi Build must be over coated with a suitable texture coating or paint as soon as practicable after it has dried.
  • The moisture content of dried Polymer Render Hi Build must be less than 15% WME at all areas of the coating before over coating
  • Do not apply cement based renders or specialty coatings over Rockcote Polymer Render. Only conventional thermoplastic exterior grade acrylic coatings are suitable for use over Rockcote Polymer Render Hi Build. If specialty coatings are to be used then contact Rockcote first
  • Polymer Render Hi Build is unsuitable for tinting to light or bright colours.
APPLICATION
Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from grease, oil or laitance and any loose material scraped back to a firm base. For masonry surfaces apply a coat of Rockcote Masonry Primer at the rate of approx. 6 - 8 square metres per litre. Deeper holes or deviations can be filled flush with Rockcote Skimcote and allowed to dry prior to the application of the Polymer Render Hi Build.

Polymer Render Hi Build may be trowelled on to the surface in one or two applications and finished with a plastic or polystyrene float. A sponge finish is usually achieved by rubbing the surface gently with a soft sponge after approximately 15 to 30 minutes drying.

STORAGE, SAFETY and HANDLING

Refer to the Rockcote MSDS for Polymer Render Hi Build

  • Pails should not be stacked more than three high during transportation and should be stored out of direct sunlight and above 4 0C
  • In the case of Polymer Render Hi Build, if ingestion occurs, drink at least two glasses of water and consult a doctor as soon as possible
  • Wear protective clothing to minimise skin contact and wear goggles where spatter is likely.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact and particularly eye contact. If eye contact occurs, flush thoroughly with clean water and see a doctor as soon as possible
  • Where spills occur, soak up liquid spillage with sand/sawdust and dispose of in accordance with council regulations
  • Clean up equipment and area with water. Do not permit run-off to sewer, storm water or open bodies of water

Thinning

Do not thin Polymer Render Hi Build

Clean Up

Clean with water immediately after use. Semi dry films can be removed with warm water and biodegradable detergent. Recently dried material can be removed with methylated spirits.

Drying (55%RelativeHumidity,25 oC)

Applied at 2mm wet film thickness over a sealed surface.

*Touch dry in 4 hours. Dry to recoat in 24 hours provided moisture level of dried Polymer Render Hi Build coating is less than 15%WME. Full Cure in 7 days. (Dry times vary with changes in temperature and humidity. Drying will be slower at higher relative humidity and/or lower temperature, or at higher film builds. Drying will be faster if used over unsealed surfaces . Over low suction substrates, Rockcote Polymer Render Hi Build may resoften if it comes into contact with liquid water too early and before it has fully cured, so it is important to protect the surface if rain is imminent.

15L Heavy Duty Plastic. Smaller sizes available on request.

Finish

Flat and highly textured, depending on finishing technique.

Maintenance

Any identified damaged should be repaired as soon as possible. Refer to Rockcote specification on General Maintenance.

Durability

Excellent interior or exterior when used as specified. For Exterior use, see paragraph on ‘Limitations’
Refer to Rockcote Render (RR) System- Performance Codes to select a suitable rating for your requirements.
