Rockcote Reno Render

Rockcote Reno Render is a two-component water borne thin section render with excellent adhesive properties for difficult substrates such as previously painted masonry & clay brick or block walls. It is especially recommended for pre-painted walls with raked mortar joints where it will provide a stable substrate for finishing coats. Reno Render is designed to harden quickly when low to zero suction rates are experienced with various substrates.

Also suitable for: -

  • Previously Painted Surfaces
  • Concrete Blocks & Bricks (where only a thin section render is required)
  • Dense Smooth Concrete
  • A.A.C. – Hebel Blocks & Panels
  • Plasterboard

A pre-mixed rendering material supplied in plastic pails, Reno Render is mixed with the specified amount of lump free Portland cement powder just before application. This product is designed to be used as a thin section render compound over difficult substrates such as previously painted masonry, off-form concrete, A.A.C. [Hebel panels or blocks] & cement sheeting. These substrates were either not suitable for normal cement render or could only be rendered with great difficulty &/or expense with unreliable results.

PERFORMANCE & PROPERTIES

Modern construction methods & materials require certain properties, which cannot be achieved with standard or even modified cement renders.

Adhesion & Flexibility

The most important properties required are, adhesion to smooth dense previously painted substrates, and flexibility & compatibility with finishing coats that are predominantly acrylic based. It must also be considered that modern construction components are typically manufactured to much closer tolerances, eliminating the need for heavy render coatings.

Economical

Rockcote Reno Render can provide an economical finish with an applied wet thickness of between 1 - 4mm. Reno Render is a stable impermeable substrate, which will greatly extend the life of all acrylic topcoats whether they are standard paints or textured finishes.

Opacity for finish coats

Due to the light grey colour of Reno Render, a primer/sealer should be applied before the desired finish coat is applied. This must be done if only one coat of the finish coat is used and has a dry film build of 0.6mm or under, or if the finish coat system requires that you must use a specified primer/sealer.

Top coating

Due to the low suction characteristics of cured Reno Render, the surface may not require sealing or priming prior to the application of high build textured finishes with a dry film build minimum of 0.7mm or over.

Limitations

Rockcote Reno Render is not suitable for areas that are submerged or subjected to continual damp. Reno Render should only be applied to a maximum thickness of 4mm per coat. Reno Render should not be applied in temperatures less than 5 ° C or higher than 35 ° C or in high wind conditions.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry & free from grease, oil or laitance & any loose material scraped back to a firm base.

Glossy and smooth surfaces should be sanded with a coarse grit sanding paper to ensure a key for satisfactory adhesion before filling deep holes or deviations with Rockcote Hard Patch & left to dry prior to the application of the Reno Render.

Previously Painted Surfaces

One coat of Rockcote Masonry Primer must be applied and allowed to dry for a minimum period of 4 hours.

Unpainted Surfaces

Two coats of Rockcote Masonry Primer must be applied. The first coat must be allowed to dry for a minimum period of 3 hours.

15 litres of Reno Render must be mixed with 2 litres of lump free Portland Cement powder conforming to Australian Standard 3972 using a power drill or festo type stirrer to ensure a lump-free mix , thentrowelled on to the surface in one or two applications (for surfaces with raked mortar joints use two applications) and finished with a plastic or polystyrene float, then let dry for a minimum of 24 hours in warm temperatures or48hours in cool temperatures, or until hard all the way through the coating for a hard, smooth and even wall ready for finish coat systems.
