Rockcote Skimcote V6Rockcote Skimcote V6 is a polymer modified thin section cement render ideal for rendering and/or patching masonry surfaces, providing an even finish for the subsequent application of conventional paints or textured coatings. Rockcote Skimcote V6 is suitable for all masonry substrates including difficult surfaces such as A.A.C. or off-form concrete. Skimcote V6 exhibits high strength and excellent adhesion to difficult substrates even when applied in thin sections (3 - 6mm). Skimcote V6 provides a water repellent coating and is manufactured without the addition of hydrated lime, making it more compatible with acrylic based paints and applied finishes . Supplied to the building site in convenient 20 kg paper sacks, Skimcote V6 is a pre-mixed powder product to which only clean water is added on site prior to application. COMPOSITIONRockcote Skimcote V6 is a polymer modified thin section render based on Portland Cement conforming to Australian Standard 3972. Finely graded quartz sand is used as the primary filler. Performance is enhanced through the addition of polymer and proprietary additives to improve the application, adhesion and water repellent properties of the render. Hydrophobing AgentRockcote has carried out extensive research to achieve the controlled water repellent characteristics exhibited by Skimcote V6 while increasing the adhesion of subsequent applications. Time and Cost SavingsSkimcote V6 is quicker to apply than standard cement render. Rockcote Skimcote V6 requires less clean up and greatly reduced curing time before the application of finish coats. Under normal conditions, the application of Rockcote acrylic paint or texture coatings may be commenced two days after Skimcote V6 has dried if the Skimcote V6 is fully cured and moisture content of the Skimcote V6 is less than 15% WME. ^ Rockcote Skimcote V6should not be left uncoated for an extended period of time and should be painted with an acrylic primer and texture coatings or Rockcote Armour as soon as practicable within 28 days after being fully cured. Rockcote Skimcote V6 is ideally suited to machine application, which can further increase the speed of application LimitationsRockcote Skimcote V6 should not be used over cement sheeting or painted surfaces. Although Rockcote Skimcote V6 exhibits greatly improved performance characteristics and reliability over conventional cement renders, it is essentially a mineral based decorative render and good trade practices should be adhered to at all times. For example, provision of expansion joints where indicated by the substrate or at the junction of different substrates, and ensuring finished work is correctly cured by regular re-wetting with water for several days after application in hot or dry conditions. APPLICATIONThin Section Rendering (3 - 6mm)Rockcote Skimcote V6 may be used as a cement render over all common building substrates. Large hollows and deviations in the surface are first filled and screeded with Skimcote V6 prior to application of the final coat. Rockcote Skimcote V6 is applied by steel trowel to a thickness of approximately 3 - 6mm, with 3mm being the minimum for one application. Patching Blocks and BricksRockcote Skimcote V6 is applied by trowel or spatula, to patch imperfections and joints between blocks & bricks. Reinforced Rendering for Expanded Polystyrene Blocks or Cladding Refer specification for Rockcote Lightweight Systems. Off-form Concrete and Tilt-slab WallsFor patching "blow holes", form joints and minor imperfections, Rockcote Skimcote V6 is applied by trowel or spatula and may be sponged into the "blow holes". For filling large imperfections such as lifting bolts or breakages, Rockcote Skimcote V6 is applied "proud" of the surface. As the material sets it is screeded off and floated to a smooth finish. The application of Rockcote Skimcote V6 is a specialist procedure and should only be carried out by a skilled and experienced applicator and in accordance with our technical specifications. SURFACE PREPARATION
Rockcote PM100 can be applied by traditional Hawk and Trowel or machine (See table). It is important to mask up all surrounding surfaces before rendering to avoid contact with PM100 especially aluminium window frames and glass. As the Skimcote V6 dries it can be floated with a wooden or polystyrene float. This surface is suitable for a textured coating. A surface ready to accept paint is achieved by using a soft sponge or sponge-float over the floated area. Acrylic Finishing CoatsRockcote Skimcote V6 has been specifically formulated without the addition of hydrated lime and is readily over coated with acrylic paints, texture finishes and lime washes after 48 hours in hot conditions after rewetting. Before application of acrylic texture finishes the dry Skimcote V6 surface should have moisture content of less than 15%WME and be sealed with one coat of Rockcote Masonry Primer, Hi-Op Primer or EcoStyle Sealer/ Undercoat. NOTE: Surfaces need not be completely dry or moisture free. Application of Skimcote V6 may proceed once the "shine" is off the surface.
