Application
Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean and free from loose material such as drummy sections and flaking paint. Powdery surfaces should not be patched with Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch.

Glossy surfaces should be lightly sanded and washed clean. Dirty surfaces should be washed down with warm water mixed with detergent and flushed with clean water. Mould should removed by cleaning and surfaces treated with a proprietary surface sanitiser with residual action. Only dry surfaces should be painted. Very absorbent or friable surfaces may require pre-priming with Rockcote Masonry Primer.

Substrates must contain less than 15% Wood-Moisture-Equivalent (%WME) before painting. Rockcote pre-bagged Cement based renders can be coated 48 hours after drying. Other new cementitious surfaces should not be coated until 30 days old.

Application

Rockcote Smooth Sanding Patch is applied using either a trowel or spatula. For general patching, imperfections should be filled with Smooth Sanding Patch and edges feathered out. When a higher standard of finish is required, the patch should be over filled & after the material has dried the patched area is sanded flush with the existing wall.

External application requires the addition of 2-3 litres of clean, lump free Portland cement powder conforming to Australian Standard 3972, per 15litre pail of Smooth Sanding Patch. Make a lump-free slurry paste using the cement and water, then add to the patch and mix in using a power mixer.
