  • Concrete
  • Clay Bricks
  • Masonry Blocks
  • Expanded Polystyrene
  • Cement Sheeting (Fibro)
  • A.A.C. Blocks & Panels

Rockcote Trowel-On is a heavy duty applied finish utilising a 100% acrylic binder and provides a protective & aesthetically pleasing finish for masonry surfaces as listed above.

Rockcote Trowel-On, when over-coated with Rockcote Armour, is suitable for full external applications where long term weather protection & low maintenance are of prime importance.

PERFORMANCE & PROPERTIES
Adhesion

Rockcote Trowel-On exhibits excellent adhesion characteristics to all properly prepared masonry substrates if correct surface preparation is carried out in accordance with specifications.

Durability

Trowel-On is knock resistant, scuff resistant and can resist extremes of weather and attack from fungi and mould when over coated with Rockcote Armour. Rockcote Trowel-On provides a flexible finish that is resistant to micro-cracking caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate. Trowel-On also remains vapour permeable, allowing the walls to “breathe”.

Colours Available

Rockcote Supermatt can be tinted to a wide range of colours from soft natural tones to vibrant colours. Light-fastness of chosen exterior colours must be confirmed before ordering.

Cost Efficient

Due to the ability of Rockcote Trowel-On to cover imperfect substrates, expensive surface preparation procedures can often be reduced or completely eliminated.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean and free from loose material such as drummy sections and flaking paint. Powdery surfaces should not be coated with Rockcote Tradecote. Glossy surfaces should be lightly sanded and washed clean. Dirty surfaces should be washed down with warm water mixed with detergent and flushed with clean water. Mould should removed by cleaning and surfaces treated with a proprietary surface sanitiser with residual action. Only dry surfaces should be painted. Fill cracks and other surface imperfections with suitable Rockcote patching compounds.

Substrates must contain less than 15% Wood-Moisture-Equivalent (%WME) before painting. Rockcote pre-bagged Cement based renders can be coated 48 hours after dry. Other new cement based surfaces should not be coated until 30 days old.

APPLICATION

Rockcote Trowel-On is applied to the wall using a stainless steel trowel & trowelled to the thickness of the coarsest aggregate. The surface is then worked with a polystyrene float in either a vertical or horizontal motion to produce the desired pattern. The depth of the pattern is governed by the size of the aggregate incorporated in the material.

Limitations

Rockcote Trowel-On is not suitable for floors.

Rockcote Trowel-On application should not be carried out where the ambient temperature is below 5 ° C or above 35 ° C, or in strong winds.

Rockcote Trowel-On must not be subject to hydrostatic pressure from within the substrate, or submerged in water.

The application of Rockcote Trowel-On is a specialist procedure & should only be carried out by a skilled and experienced applicator.
