ROCKCOTE NATURAL MATERIALS A TALKING POINT IN BONDI BAKERY
Amidst a busy main street in urban Bondi is a delightful little bakery and cafe that embodies the spirit of naturally beautiful buildings.
Approaching the Tin Pin Bakery, diners can tell they are in for something different by the small round table that sits half on the pavement and half inside the shop, with a window in between.
Inside is a contemporary take on a modest, vintage bakery, complete with rustic furniture, time-worn biscuit tins and aged advertising signs. Tin Pin's owners were seeking an authentic look when they refurbished the space, one which reflected their commitment to operating an environmentally friendly, organic-based business. Tin Pin's philosophy is Organic. Passion. Flavour and the entire space had to reflect those values.
CREATING A NATURAL FEATURE WALL
The artisan, Peter Holmes from Tadelakt Sydney had completed a workshop in ROCKCOTE Natural Materials and suggested creating an internal feature wall using natural render.
ROCKCOTE Earthen Render Coarse was used on the 20 square metre wall, with its earthy colour creating a warm, country feel. The finish was intentionally undulated and to add texture and details, dry wheat stems and grain were pressed into the wet render.
The result was a stunning natural wall that is not only a feature but a talking point - its unique beauty and tactile graininess catches the eye of customers who often feel compelled to touch its coarse texture.
NEW CLAYSET WALL
Peter returned to the Tin Pin Bakery in 2014, creating a stunning Clayset feature wall and a bread display from recycled timber and old NSW railway luggage racks. He said "the Clayset is one of those beautiful, natural, soft patina finishes that just makes you feel warm inside. People visit the bakery because they love the atmosphere - earthy, soft and comfortable."
