Italian-inspired velvety allure
In the tradition of quality European lime plasters, ROCKCOTE Velvetina is a strong, fine-grained decorative plaster finish with a distinctive velvety appearance.
With less drama than Venetian Plaster, and harder drying characteristics than Otsumigaki, Velvetina is designed to produce a low lustre finish with a serene, natural look. It is particularly useful for finishes where a combination of lightly polished closed, and coarser open areas is sought - such as a Bamboo or Travertina effect finish.
Velvetina's velvety allure works effortlessly in offices, reception areas, large feature walls in restaurants and homes, and bar faces. It is not suitable for shower recesses, benchtops or splashbacks.
As a finishing coat
ROCKCOTE Velvetina can be used as a two coat finishing system for interiors, delivering a smooth to low lustre finish.
For best results, apply the first and second coats with a Venetian Trowel allowing 12 hours between coats and then polish using a Japanese Namikeshi stainless steel trowel. Flat patterns can also be achieved by the creative artisan.
This product cannot be used to achieve a high polished finish; if a super-high polished finish is sought, ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster should be used.
As a base coat
ROCKCOTE Velvetina is ROCKCOTE’s recommended base coat under ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster for plasterboard, FCS and magnesium board for internal and external areas. The product is suitable as a base coat for ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster in a bathroom or laundry area excluding shower recesses and areas where water pools such as baths and basins.
ROCKCOTE Velvetina delivers a fine levelling coat that effectively covers the textured appearance of plasterboard, evening out vertical lines and smoothing joints, creating an homogenous surface for the subsequent application of ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster.
By using ROCKCOTE Velvetina as a base coat for ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster, the skilled artisan can create a more lustrous finish with greater depth and shine than other base coat options.
To use as a base coat, apply one tight coat of ROCKCOTE Velvetina in its natural white colour – there is no need to tint to the required finishing colour. Leave for a minimum of 12 hours before applying ROCKCOTE Venetian Plaster.
ROCKCOTE Velvetina is not recommended as a base coat for brick or block. ROCKCOTE Lime Plaster Basecote should be used for this substrate.
